About ThreadChart
ThreadChart is an independent cross-stitch chart generator operated by Bell Park Products LLC. It helps you turn a photograph or image into a limited-color stitch grid, inspect and edit individual stitch positions, and save a chart you can use at your stitching table.
Made for the decisions between a photo and a pattern
An automatic conversion is a starting point. A recognizable pattern still depends on a useful crop, an appropriate stitch width, a manageable palette and deliberate cleanup. ThreadChart puts those decisions alongside fabric-size calculations, approximate thread quantities and printable chart output.
The tool processes your selected image in your browser. You can download a ThreadChart JSON project to keep editing, save an image or SVG preview, and export a multi-page PDF symbol chart. A downloaded editable project is the safest way to preserve work beyond the current browser.
What the preview can tell you
The grid shows the chosen stitch positions and approximate palette colors. It cannot simulate every property of real thread, fabric, tension or room lighting. Check important colors against physical thread and consider a small stitched sample before committing to a large portrait or another project where color relationships matter.
ThreadChart references DMC shade names and numbers to help organize a palette. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or an official product of DMC. Our screen-color approximations are not certified measurements of DMC thread.
Practical guides with explicit assumptions
Our guides cover photo selection, chart cleanup, fabric sizing, symbols, printing and backups. Worked examples use stated dimensions and assumptions so that you can repeat the arithmetic for your own design. We distinguish a full-cross count from a thread estimate and an editable project from a finished preview.
Read the methodology for the current conversion approach and estimation limits. Use the guides when comparing chart options, then make the final choices based on your fabric, thread and intended finish.
